Why your apps all broke at once today

A Google Cloud outage Thursday caused disruptions across apps including Spotify, Cloudflare, and Discord. Google Cloud began investigating service issues at 11:46 a.m. PT and reported recovery progress by 2:23 p.m. PT.

A Google Cloud outage caused widespread internet disruptions on Thursday, affecting services from Cloudflare to Spotify. Google Cloud began investigating the issues at 11:46 a.m. PT and expects restoration within an hour, as of 2:23 p.m. PT.

According to TechCrunch, Google Cloud spokesperson Devon Smiley stated via email, “We are currently investigating a service disruption to some Google Cloud services.”

Cloudflare reported investigating service disruptions affecting its customers at 11:19 a.m. PT, according to its status page. By 12:12 p.m. PT, the company indicated initial service recovery.

Cloudflare spokesperson Ripley Park said in an email, “This is a Google Cloud outage. A limited number of services at Cloudflare use Google Cloud and were impacted. We expect them to come back shortly. The core Cloudflare services were not impacted.”


Google Cloud to enforce multi-factor authentication requirement in 2025


DownDetector, a crowdsourced reporting platform, indicated that apps including Spotify, Discord, Snapchat, and Character.AI experienced outages. AI coding applications Cursor and Replit were also affected.

Amjad Masad posted on X, “Google cloud is having an outage and that’s taking Replit down. We’re working with them to bring it back up ASAP.”

Spotify spokesperson Shira Rimini stated the company was monitoring Google Cloud’s status page for updates.

An AWS spokesperson informed TechCrunch that they were not experiencing disruptions. Microsoft Azure has not reported any outages through official channels.

These outages commenced around 11 a.m. PT, disrupting the workday in the U.S.
