Meta announced Wednesday the addition of video editing capabilities to Meta AI, allowing users to modify short videos with preset AI prompts. The tools, which can alter costumes, locations, and styles, are rolling out to the Meta AI app, Meta.ai website, and Edits, Meta’s CapCut competitor, in the U.S.

These new features represent Meta’s entry into competition with companies such as Google, which have been integrating generative AI video tools into their applications, along with other AI-powered editing platforms like Captions. The features were inspired by Meta’s Movie Gen AI models, although the specific models powering the editing tools remain unspecified.

The initial release includes 50 presets designed to edit 10-second videos. These presets were developed based on creator feedback to ensure their usability within the Edits app. Examples of preset effects include applying a “vintage comic book style,” changing the lighting to simulate a rainy day, or replacing clothing with a space cadet suit.

According to Meta’s blog post, the company developed the tools “so that everyone can experiment creatively and make fun, interesting videos to share with their friends, family, and followers.” The company added, “Whether you’re reimagining a favorite family memory or finding new ways to entertain your audience, our video editing [tools] can help.”

Meta AI offers existing image generation features. With this video editing feature, Meta’s objective is to encourage creators to utilize its native tools as an alternative to third-party applications.
