Reddit revealed Tuesday a new “Content and Activity” setting, offering users increased privacy regarding their profile content. The update allows users to control the visibility of their posts and comments within subreddits.

The new setting enables users to hide their public posts and comments, including those made directly on their profiles. By default, all posts and comments remain visible, but users can selectively display content from chosen communities while concealing others. The “Curate your profile” section houses the new setting, where users can manage content visibility. Options to toggle NSFW content and follower counts are also available.

Reddit states the option to hide or display posts and comments operates on a per-community basis, not at the individual post or comment level. This approach is designed to simplify settings management.

Despite the curation option, usernames will still appear alongside posts and comments within communities. Moderators retain access to a user’s public post and comment history for 28 days, regardless of the visibility settings. This access aids moderators in reviewing user history related to posts, comments, and modmail.

Reddit also notes that profile owners can temporarily view a user’s full post and comment history if that user comments directly on their profile post.

Concurrently, Reddit launched updated personal activity summaries, offering an overview of user activity. This includes Karma count, total contributions, account age, and active communities, with the latter based on the new Content and activity settings.

The feature was announced in a blog post written by Reddit. According to TechCrunch, Sarah Perez, Consumer News Editor since August 2011, reported on this enhanced privacy feature. She has a background in I.T. across multiple industries.
