To mark its tenth anniversary, Google Photos has launched a redesigned editor featuring new AI tools, Reimagine and Auto Frame, expanding their availability beyond Pixel devices. The global rollout begins next month for Android, with iOS following later this year.

The Reimagine feature employs generative AI to alter photo elements using text prompts. One example is changing a “gloomy sky” to “clear blue skies.”

The Auto Frame feature provides framing suggestions, including cropping, widening, and using generative AI to fill empty spaces.

According to Google, the redesigned editor consolidates all editing tools while offering helpful suggestions, including the new “AI Enhance” option, which combines multiple effects for quicker edits. The combination of AI effects, such as image sharpening and object removal, is possible.

Users can also tap specific areas of a photo to receive tailored tool suggestions, such as lighting adjustments or background blurring.

In addition, Google announced the introduction of QR codes for album sharing. These codes allow for easier access and photo contributions, and can also be printed for group events.
