Netflix is ending support for the earliest Amazon Fire TV devices next month, with a US cutoff date of June 3rd, according to Heise.

Amazon spokesperson Jen Lurey Ridings confirmed the end of support in a statement to The Verge, saying: “Netflix will be discontinuing support for some first-generation Fire TV devices, which were introduced more than 10 years ago. Netflix remains available on all other Fire TV devices.” Lurey Ridings specified that support will end for first-generation models of Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote.

Users with these devices “may be eligible for a discount on a newer Fire TV Stick and can contact customer service for more information,” according to Lurey Ridings. To check if a device is losing Netflix support, users can look in the “About” section under Settings > My Fire TV.

Netflix gets a TikTok-esque feed for its app

Netflix’s email does not state why support is being cut off, but a FAQ on the company’s help page indicates that it may deprecate its app for devices that “can no longer get necessary updates from its manufacturer or support new features.” The FAQ also references error codes R4, R12, and R25-1, which signify that a device is not supported.

Netflix did not respond to a request for comment, while Amazon provided a statement through spokesperson Jen Lurey Ridings, which was added to the information on May 25th.
