Here’s why you are seeing green or pink lines on your Galaxy S23

Reports suggest that the issue predominantly arose after software updates, contributing to user frustration since Samsung's free screen replacement campaign for this problem has ended

Multiple Galaxy S23 and S23 Ultra users are currently experiencing a green line issue on their devices, following recent software updates. Images shared by X user @SamsungSWUpdate depict affected units without any signs of physical damage.

Galaxy S23 users report mysterious green line issue after update

Reports suggest that the issue predominantly arose after software updates, contributing to user frustration since Samsung’s free screen replacement campaign for this problem has ended. Posts on community forums note instances where users observe the green line appearing immediately after updates; one user stated, “I updated the software on my Galaxy S23 yesterday night… Today morning I wake up to green line on my screen,” which followed an update to the November security patch.

Another affected user reported that while browsing, a green line unexpectedly appeared on their Galaxy S23 Ultra screen, indicating the issue manifested soon after installing an update. Research indicates that most devices affected by the green line require display replacements, suggesting the cause is not linked to inappropriate device handling.

Amid promises of nearly a decade of software updates, many users are now reconsidering the installation of these updates due to concerns about potential screen issues. However, neglecting security patches could leave users vulnerable to data security risks.

The green line issue is not uniquely associated with Samsung’s devices; OnePlus smartphones faced a similar problem last year, prompting the company to implement a “Green Line Worry-Free Solution,” which includes a lifetime warranty for affected devices, free screen replacements, and efforts to enhance display technology to prevent such occurrences in the future. The response from Samsung regarding this issue remains to be seen.

In recent weeks, it has been reported that Galaxy S23 and S23 Ultra owners are also facing pink line issues that similarly affect the OLED screens, resulting in a vertical line appearing without any apparent external damage. Users are disappointed that a flagship device is exhibiting such faults.

Samsung’s screen replacement campaign for these display issues has concluded, leading users to seek repairs at their own expense. Typically, the OLED screen technology in flagship Galaxy models can develop vertical lines when an LED or pixel element becomes damaged, possibly due to overheating or other factors.

Affected users are encouraged to reach out to Samsung Support, where technicians may assist in assessing devices and potentially require a visit to a local service center. Screen replacement policies may vary based on evaluations by Samsung’s authorized technicians and local regulations regarding such issues.

This problem recalls previous widespread display issues noted in older Galaxy models, such as the Galaxy S20 Plus, where Samsung offered free replacements in certain markets, though such programs were contingent upon specific eligibility criteria.
