Google’s release of Android 16 beta 2.1 on February 27 has led to significant battery drain issues affecting multiple users. This update, primarily intended for bug fixes, has reportedly exacerbated an existing battery depletion problem.
Google’s Android 16 beta 2.1: Users report severe battery drain issues
Numerous Android 16 beta testers have taken to Reddit to voice their concerns, highlighting that they now face drastic battery drain, with some needing to charge their phones twice daily. One user shared their experience, stating, “To really drive this home. I’ve had about 1 hour and 32 minutes of total screen on time usage today. Unplugged around 9 am, and my current battery life is 63 percent. I hope they fix this soon. It’s to the point where I don’t even want to use my phone for any extended periods of time.”
Android 16 release date is June 2025
This situation is notable because accelerated battery depletion first emerged with beta 2.0, and beta 2.1 was released to address this issue. However, for many users, the new beta appears to have worsened the problem.
A small number of users report that beta 2.1 has resolved the battery drain issues that were prevalent in beta 2.0. One user mentioned that their battery rested at 57% after over five hours of screen on time, contrasting sharply with others’ experiences.
