OnePlus is reportedly developing a compact smartphone, the “Mini,” set to feature an impressive 6,000 mAh battery, making it the same size as Google’s Pixel 9.

OnePlus develops compact smartphone with 6,000 mAh battery

Within the competitive landscape of the US smartphone market, dominated by Apple and Samsung, smaller brands like Motorola and OnePlus are gradually gaining traction. OnePlus previously engaged in partnerships with T-Mobile, which did not yield desired success in the US market.

Despite facing challenges in this region, OnePlus has invested heavily in research and development, positioning its flagship models as superior yet more affordable alternatives to those from Apple and Samsung.

According to a leaked launch roadmap, OnePlus intends to unveil the compact flagship, labeled as the OnePlus 13 Mini or OnePlus 13T, in the coming months. This approach reflects a growing awareness that many consumers prefer smaller smartphones amid a trend where manufacturers primarily focus on larger devices.

Leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo announced that the upcoming “small” screen device will set a new benchmark in battery capacity for compact phones, offering a 6,000 mAh battery. Furthermore, future iterations may boast even larger batteries, estimated to reach between 6,500 and 7,000 mAh later in the year. This information pertains to the OnePlus 13 “Mini,” which could be based on the Oppo Find X8 Mini rumored to launch next month.

Pixel 9A just solved the worst smartphone design flaw

The anticipated “Mini” smartphone will feature a display of approximately 6.3 inches, significantly smaller than the 6.78-inch display of the standard OnePlus 13. This size is comparable to that of the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, which was recognized in 2024 as one of the standout “small” Android phones.

Integrating a 6,000 mAh battery into this compact design is noteworthy, as it matches the capacity of the regular OnePlus 13. This development also provides a nearly 30% battery upgrade over the Pixel 9’s 4,700 mAh battery. In contrast, the Samsung Galaxy S25 offers only a 4,000 mAh battery despite similar dimensions.

OnePlus’s achievement in packing a high-capacity battery into a compact device appears to stem from ongoing advancements in battery technology rather than an increase in thickness. Digital Chat Station noted that the phone would not be excessively thick, aligning with ongoing innovations in battery engineering. Oppo’s work on cramming substantial batteries into devices like the ultra-thin Find N5 foldable could influence similar breakthroughs in traditional smartphone designs.

The impending OnePlus device offers intriguing technological capabilities with its substantial 6,000 mAh battery—an advantage not found in current flagship models from competitors like Samsung.

Additional details from Digital Chat Station indicate that the forthcoming OnePlus flagship scheduled for release later in the year is set to include an even more impressive battery capacity of 6,500 to 7,000 mAh, a landmark in flagship smartphone specifications.

Despite the disappointment surrounding the absence of a foldable model from OnePlus this year, the brand’s prospects appear promising for fans. However, consumers in the United States may find limitations, as T-Mobile remains the only carrier that fully supports OnePlus devices.

The launch of the anticipated “Mini” smartphone is expected to occur around April.
