Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is poised for notable upgrades, though reports indicate that it will retain the same battery capacity as its predecessor.
Upgrades and design changes
The Galaxy Z Fold lineup has seen gradual evolution in recent years, with the 2024 Galaxy Z Fold 6 featuring updates that ultimately fell short compared to rivals in the foldable market. For the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7, a variety of enhancements are anticipated.
Recent reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will incorporate elements from the Galaxy Z Fold SE, released last year, including a thinner design and a larger display. The adjustments also affect the functionality of the S Pen, which will be modified to accommodate the device’s slimmer profile.
Leaker Setsuna Digital on Weibo mentioned the inclusion of an improved hinge, potential enhancements to the display crease, and upgrades to both the main camera and the under-display camera. Additionally, better water and dust resistance is expected. These updates align with features of the Galaxy Z Fold SE, which boasted an 8-inch display and a 200MP main camera.
Battery and performance details
Despite these advancements, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will reportedly maintain the same 4,400 mAh battery that has been a standard since the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Charging speeds are also expected to remain unchanged, consistent with the Galaxy Z Fold SE.
The device may be equipped with the Exynos 2500, Samsung’s first-party chip, which could offer reliable performance akin to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. A larger vapor chamber is rumored to improve heat management.
Samsung is also set to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 7 alongside the Z Fold 7 later this summer. Similar to the Fold, the Flip may face criticisms regarding incremental upgrades, particularly concerning camera capabilities and overall design, which are not expected to differ significantly from earlier models.
Both foldables are predicted to highlight generative AI features, although the tangible impact of these enhancements on everyday use remains uncertain.
