Google has announced that its next I/O developer conference will take place on May 20th and May 21st, 2025. The event will be open to everyone online and feature livestreamed keynotes and sessions. It will also include an in-person component at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California.
Google I/O 2025 to take place on May 20-21
The announcement follows a puzzle game launched by Google, which is a tradition the company has embraced to unveil the I/O dates. This year’s conference will coincide with Microsoft’s Build conference, occurring from May 19th through May 22nd.
The previous Google I/O was held on May 14th, 2024, and included significant announcements such as new features and models for the Gemini AI platform, the Project Astra AI assistant, the Veo generative AI video model, and a major revamp of Google Search focused on AI. The 2023 edition featured the Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel 7A alongside extensive AI news.

Google stated, “Save the date: Google I/O is May 20-21, 2025. The countdown to Google I/O begins now! Join us live on May 20 and 21 from Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View and online at io.google. At I/O, you’ll learn more about Google’s newest products, technologies, and innovations in AI, Android, and more. We’ll start day one with keynotes, followed by sessions, demos, networking opportunities, and more continuing on day two.” The two-day event will feature a mix of public- and developer-facing content, beginning with a keynote by CEO Sundar Pichai on the morning of May 20.
Last year’s conference heavily focused on Gemini, Google’s generative AI platform, and expectations for 2025 are similar as the competition in AI heats up with companies like OpenAI and DeepSeek. The I/O 2025 site is already live, providing access to developer content from previous years, including Gemma, Google AI Studio, and NotebookLM.
The developer season will begin with Nvidia’s GTC from March 17-21, leading into Apple’s WWDC in June. Google will also encounter competition from Microsoft Build, taking place in Seattle during May 19-22.
