The Iconfactory has launched Tapestry, a new app that consolidates various social media feeds and web content into a single timeline for iPhone and iPad users. The app went live on the App Store today, following its previous announcement as ‘Project Tapestry’ during a Kickstarter campaign over a year ago.

Iconfactory launches Tapestry to unify social media feeds

Tapestry merges posts from services such as Bluesky, Mastodon, Tumblr, RSS feeds, podcasts, YouTube channels, and more. It features a chronological feed devoid of algorithmic influences, ensuring users see content in the order it was published.

One of the app’s main features is the ability to create custom timelines, allowing users to seamlessly sync their reading position across devices. Tapestry includes a color-coded stream for easy navigation of a multitude of sources, simplifying browsing through various feeds.

To enhance user experience, Tapestry offers tools to establish rules that control the displayed content, enabling users to mute undesirable topics and avoid spoilers. Additionally, Tapestry provides powerful searching capabilities, allowing users to look for specific topics and terms across all feeds simultaneously.

User privacy is emphasized, with Tapestry designed to keep all content stored on the device, ensuring that searching and viewing is completely private. The app does not sell or share user data with third parties.

Tapestry also supports custom connectors, which allow users to import third-party data feeds or write their own. If an open data feed is available, it can be integrated into Tapestry’s timeline. Alongside these features, Tapestry includes options for customization such as app icon, layout, and font adjustments, and supports both light and dark modes.

The app is available for free on the App Store, with subscriptions offered at $1.99 monthly, $19.99 annually, or a one-time purchase of $79.99 to unlock additional features such as custom timelines, content muting, and theme customization.

Children under 16 won’t be able to use social media in Australia

Positioned as a contemporary solution for the fragmented nature of social media today, Tapestry aims to facilitate users in managing scattered content from various platforms, especially as networks like Bluesky and Mastodon gain traction.

As the app merges diverse content sources, it may appeal mainly to early adopters primarily among those keen on consolidating multiple social media and web feeds into a singular, cohesive timeline. With Tapestry, users have the potential to create uniquely tailored feeds, but may also encounter challenges with the app’s navigation and engagement functionalities.
