The Nintendo Switch 2 is one of the most anticipated console releases of the year, with a launch expected in May 2025. Ahead of the official reveal during the Nintendo Direct conference on April 2, leaks and retailer listings have provided insights into its release date, pricing, pre-orders, and launch game lineup.

  • Update: Waiting for the Switch 2? Nintendo just made your decision easier
  • Update 2: Where to watch Nintendo Direct Switch 2 reveal on April 2

Nintendo Switch 2 release date and pricing details

According to Finnish video game retailer Konsolinet, the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to launch on May 9, 2025. This date aligns with Nintendo’s usual Friday release schedule for major hardware launches. Additionally, Italian retailer Gamesandmovies.it has listed a pre-order price of €364.99, which translates to approximately $380. Given Nintendo’s previous pricing strategies, the final U.S. price is expected to be around $399.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order options

While Nintendo has yet to open official pre-orders, UK retailers like Currys and ShopTo have begun allowing customers to register their interest. Currys is offering a “pre-pre-order” system, notifying customers as soon as pre-orders go live. Meanwhile, ShopTo is letting fans place a symbolic deposit of one penny to secure a place in line. Due to high demand, pre-orders are being limited to one console per customer.
