Apple has introduced its first official gaming keyboard and mouse developed in partnership with Corsair. Available in November 2024, the Corsair K65 Plus mechanical keyboard and M75 wireless mouse are specifically designed for Mac users. Priced at $179.95 and $129.95, respectively, these devices aim to enhance the gaming experience on Apple’s platforms.
“We are thrilled to bring Corsair high-performance input devices in exclusive and fun new colors to Mac users,” stated Thi La, President and COO of CORSAIR.
Corsair now offers a gaming keyboard and mouse designed for Mac users
The partnership with Corsair brings two innovative products to Apple’s line-up, focusing on compatibility and performance. The K65 is a 75% layout keyboard featuring Corsair’s MLX RED linear switches and is equipped with hot-swappable keys. With a steel plate chassis that ensures durability, this keyboard weighs significantly less than traditional mechanical keyboards yet maintains a solid build quality. It is designed to work seamlessly with all current Mac models, offering Mac-specific key layouts including CMD and OPT keys, along with a functional row matching Apple’s classic design.
The M75 wireless mouse complements the K65 keyboard with a lightweight structure weighing just 89 grams. An ambidextrous design caters to both right- and left-handed gamers, ensuring comfort and usability. It employs Corsair’s 26,000 DPI Marksman optical sensor, enhancing precision during gaming sessions. Both peripherals come with Corsair’s iCue software, which allows users to customize RGB lighting and functionality for each key.
Apple’s announcement reveals that these peripherals will be available in unique colorways, including Glacier Blue and a limited Frost edition, only in Apple stores. This introduction marks a notable departure for Apple, which has historically preferred to be solely associated with its in-house hardware. According to Corsair, the K65 keyboard offers up to 266 hours of battery life, although this figure is dependent on the connection type—Bluetooth, USB-C, or the included 2.4 GHz dongle. A USB-C to USB-A converter is also provided as part of the package due to the latest Macs lacking USB-A ports.
Recent research casts doubt on the future of gaming industry
While the K65 and M75 are intended to improve gaming on Mac, prospective users should note that pairing these devices is not as user-friendly as Apple’s native peripherals. The lack of auto-detection means users will need to manage connections manually. Despite these hurdles, the K65 keyboard provides a more responsive and satisfying typing experience compared to Apple’s Magic Keyboard, while the M75 mouse presents significant advancements over the Magic Mouse, which has been criticized for its design flaws.
With Apple focusing on improving its gaming ecosystem, titles like Frostpunk 2, Control, and Cyberpunk 2077 are set to appear on Mac, further enticing gamers to consider Apple’s hardware. During a recent showcase, Apple highlighted upcoming games, including Resident Evil 2 remake and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, emphasizing that the K65 and M75 peripherals can enhance gameplay in these titles. Mac still lacks major competitive shooters, which may limit the appeal of these gaming peripherals in the competitive esports arena.
