Everything you need to know about the new Logic Pro
Let’s spotlight all new features offered by Logic Pro.
Session Players
The latest iteration of Logic Pro introduces revolutionary features in the form of Session Players, expanding upon the already popular Drummer tool that transformed music creation with its debut over a decade ago. These AI-driven musicians now include not just a drummer but also a virtual Bass Player and Keyboard Player, providing a comprehensive, responsive backing band that adapts to the artist’s input. This allows musicians to maintain complete creative control throughout the music-making process, enhancing the live-playing experience with AI that interacts seamlessly with human creativity.
Bass Player
The introduction of the Bass Player is a significant enhancement in Logic Pro. Developed through a collaboration with some of today’s leading bassists and utilizing cutting-edge AI and sampling technologies, the Bass Player offers a selection of eight distinct virtual musicians. Artists can control the complexity and intensity of the bass lines, with additional parameters that mimic realistic playing techniques such as slides, mutes, dead notes, and pickup hits. The Chord Track feature enables the Bass Player to follow along with defined chord progressions, and users can further explore musical creativity with 100 Bass Player loops or tap into six meticulously sampled instruments available through the Studio Bass plug-in.
Keyboard Player
The Keyboard Player in Logic Pro allows users to choose from four different playing styles, each designed in cooperation with top studio musicians to suit a variety of music genres. This virtual instrument can execute everything from simple block chords to complex voicings with extended harmony. Like the Bass Player, the Keyboard Player integrates seamlessly with the Chord Track, ensuring accurate adherence to the song’s chord progressions. The Studio Piano plug-in enhances this experience, offering users sound-shaping options that adjust microphone placements, pedal and key noises, release samples, and sympathetic resonance, enriching the overall musical texture.
Stem Splitter
Stem Splitter is a groundbreaking feature designed to salvage and enhance great performances captured in less formal environments, such as voice memos or live shows. This tool uses AI and Apple’s M-series silicon to separate mixed audio recordings into four distinct components—Drums, Bass, Vocals, and Other Instruments. With these components isolated, artists can easily apply effects, introduce new parts, or remix the original material, breathing new life into once-inaccessible performances.
ChromaGlow
ChromaGlow leverages AI to emulate the revered sounds of classic studio hardware. This feature offers five different saturation styles that add depth, warmth, and presence to any track. Users can select from modern, clean enhancements to nostalgic, vintage tones or explore more radical sound transformations, all customizable to fit the artist’s vision.
Since its launch, Logic Pro for iPad has quickly become a favorite among creatives, thanks to its intuitive touch interface and versatile functionality. The software turns the iPad into a dynamic instrument and portable studio, enriched by the robust capabilities of Apple silicon. This allows for complex multitrack projects and expansive sound design possibilities on the go. Transitioning projects between iPad and Mac is streamlined, ensuring a fluid creative process whether in the studio or on the move.
Pricing
Logic Pro for Mac 11 will roll out on May 13 as a free update for existing users, and will be available for new users at $199.99 on the Mac App Store. It requires macOS Ventura 13.5 or later. Similarly, Logic Pro for iPad 2 will be accessible as a free update for current users, and for new users, it will be priced at $4.99 per month or $49 per year after a one-month free trial. This version requires iPadOS 17.4 or later. Both updates underscore Apple’s commitment to making professional-grade music production tools more accessible and powerful.
