The latest Foamstars AI art news caused Square Enix to be the focus of criticism. Square Enix, a big name in video games, has taken a big step with its new PlayStation game, “Foamstars.” This game is a lot like the popular “Splatoon,” and it’s special because it uses AI, or artificial intelligence, to help make some of its art. This is a pretty new thing in video games and shows how technology is becoming a big part of making games.

Kosuke Okatani, who leads the Foamstars team, talked to VGC, a gaming news site, and said that the game will have some AI-created art. But, he also made sure to say that most of the game was made by people, not computers. Many people in the industry still didn’t like the Foamstars AI art news. Foamstars will be available to play on PlayStation Plus starting February 6.

Midjourney powers Foamstars AI art

Square Enix used a tool called Midjourney for the Foamstars AI art. Midjourney can turn words into pictures. They used it to make cool, abstract pictures for the music in the game. Square Enix said, “In this instance, we experimented with Midjourney using simple prompts to produce abstract images. We loved what was created and used them as the final album covers players will see in the game. Everything else was created entirely by our development team.” he said in his interview with Video Games Chronicle.

Square Enix isn’t just trying AI for fun. They have big plans for it. Earlier this year, the company’s president, Takashi Kiryu, wrote a letter saying they want to use AI a lot in making and selling games. He said AI could help them make games better and faster and also do better in advertising. In the future, they hope to use AI to make totally new kinds of games and content.

Midjourney mesmerizes everyone with its new version

AI in gaming isn’t just a Square Enix thing. Other big names in gaming, like Xbox, are also working with AI. For example, Xbox is using AI to make characters and stories in games. But, not everyone likes this idea. Some voice actors didn’t like that a game called The Finals used computer voices instead of human ones. Still, many players seem to enjoy these AI-powered games.

AI in Games: Exciting but Controversial

Using AI in games like Foamstars brings up some tough questions. Some tools like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion, which make AI art, are being sued. Artists say these tools use their art without permission to train the AI. Also, people worry that using more AI might mean fewer jobs for humans in the gaming industry.

This debate about AI isn’t just in gaming. Famous movie director Tim Burton said AI art was “disturbing” in 2023. Also, Wizards of the Coast, who make the card game Magic: The Gathering, had to say sorry for wrongly claiming they didn’t use AI in some of their artwork.

Midjourney Styles unveiled: Level up your generations

Even with all the debate, AI is becoming more common in games and other creative areas. With the latest Foamstar AI art news, we might be seeing the start of a big change in how games are made. It’s a mix of excitement and concern as we watch how AI will shape the future of entertainment.
