The R1 isn’t a replacement for your smartphone – it’s a specialized tool for AI-based searches. With its own Wi-Fi and cellular connections, you can use it anywhere. Developed with Teenage Engineering, the R1 has a fun design and runs on Rabbit OS, featuring the company’s exclusive AI model.

Jesse Lyu, Rabbit’s CEO, clarifies that the R1 isn’t out to replace your smartphone entirely. Instead, it’s here to enhance your digital experience, offering a glimpse into a future where it might play a more significant role in your daily life.

Rabbit R1 AI companion features

At the core of the R1 is Rabbit’s LAM, mimicking app interactions seamlessly. Trained to navigate interfaces and complete tasks like your phone’s apps, the LAM integrates with Rabbit OS, going beyond basic AI engines. The Rabbit OS, or “rabbit hole,” uses task agents called “rabbits” to perform various tasks on your phone. A teaser video hints at compatibility with popular apps, empowering users through the web portal.

The R1 packs features like a real-time translator, notetaker, and recipe suggestions based on your fridge contents. With computer vision, it analyzes visuals, plays songs, and processes documents, making it a versatile companion for daily needs.

How does the Rabbit R1 AI companion work?

The hardware companion, Rabbit R1, is the key to bringing Rabbit’s LAM and OS to life. In collaboration with Teenage Design Engineering, it features a 2.88-inch display, a push-to-talk button, a navigation wheel, and a 360-degree rotating camera.

Interacting with the R1 is straightforward – use the push-to-talk button for voice commands or shake the device for typed instructions. The analog scroll wheel aids navigation, and a double-click activates the “rabbit eye” (camera) for computer-vision applications. This user-friendly approach and Rabbit’s ambitious AI model position the R1 as a promising standalone AI companion.
