A number of TikTok trends frequently gain popularity on social media, and the most current one, “Boat Jumping,” has taken the internet by storm. This trend is simpler than many others, and it is self-explanatory. But what is the TikTok boat jumping challenge?

People who participate in this trend complete the challenge by hurling themselves over the side of a boat and into the water. Videos of TikTok users attempting the boat jumping craze have gained widespread popularity on social media. Participating individuals have adopted the hashtag “#Boatjumping” to identify the trend.

In other instances, the boat appears to be stationary, and the sea looks to be rather calm; in the TikTok craze, people jump into the ocean. In other instances, though, the boat is observed traveling quickly. It doesn’t end there, as there is more shocking news about the TikTok boat jumping challenge.

TikTok boat jumping challenge took lives in the US

Officials in Alabama have now alleged that the new craze has killed four people after they promptly shattered their necks. Four drownings that were ‘clearly avoidable,’ according to officials, occurred in the last six months, doing the TikTok boat jumping challenge.

In Alabama, the US, a new TikTok trend that includes jumping off a boat moving quickly has killed at least four individuals, including a parent. According to the New York Post, which cited authorities, the participants jumped into the sea, broke their necks, and then drowned.

According to reports, the TikTok boat jumping trend’s participants jumped or flipped from the backs of swift boats, only to break their necks when they slammed into the sea at high speed and drown.

Tired of unrealistic beauty filters on TikTok? Bad news, the frustration grows

Captain Jim Dennis of the Childersburg Rescue Squad in Alabama told WBMA that there had been four drownings in the previous six months that may have been easily prevented. They were taking part in a challenge on TikTok.

“It’s where you get in a boat going at a high rate of speed, you jump off the side of the boat, don’t dive, you’re jumping off feet first, and you just kinda lean into the water.”

According to WPDE, a middle-aged guy was involved in the most recent incident in Alabama, which happened in May. People may be seen plunging into white water from the back of swift-moving boats in TikTok videos documenting the trend. Five people can be seen black-flipping into the water in one video that was allegedly recorded on Lake Norman in North Carolina.

It is not a new trend

The video, which was first released in 2021, has been bombarded with comments forewarning of the killings following the news from Alabama in recent days.

Someone said, “That’s so dangerous, not cool.” Another user wrote: ‘”So dangerous! Four people have broken their necks and died from this.”

Two teenagers died after taking part in the Benadryl Challenge. Thus, this is not the first craze to result in fatalities on the social media platform. People, usually children, are observed swallowing many antihistamine pills in order to cause hallucinations before releasing films of their experiences.

Chloe Marie Phillips, 15, passed away in August 2020 after participating in the trend, and Jacob Stevens, 13, passed away in April of this year.

The dark side of social media trends

Social media now permeates every aspect of our life. We use it to keep in touch with loved ones, to obtain news and information, and for entertainment. But there can be a negative aspect to social networking.

Social media trends sometimes even result in fatalities. The TikTok boat jumping challenge is only one of them. For instance, the “Blue Whale Challenge” is a social media activity where players are urged to complete a series of tasks that ultimately result in suicide. Numerous teen deaths worldwide have been connected to the challenge.

It’s critical to be aware of the negative effects of current social media trends. Report anything damaging or dangerous you come across right away to the social media platform. You can also discuss what you saw with a reliable adult.

Here are some pointers for using social media safely:

  • Be careful about what you disclose. Nothing that you wouldn’t want the entire world to see should be shared.
  • Think twice before you interact with anyone. Do not accept friend requests from strangers.
  • Recognize the symptoms of cyberbullying. Inform a dependable adult if you are being bullied.
  • Stop using social media for a while. Maintaining a positive balance between your online and real lives is crucial.
