Elon Musk gave new information about his much-rumored competitor to ChatGPT on Monday during an interview on Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson Tonight. He called it TruthGPT, and it is an AI platform that is meant to compete with products from Microsoft and Google.
You can watch the full interview below.
Elon Musk is known for his visionary ideas and ambitious projects. He has founded and led companies such as Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, The Boring Company, and lately, X.AI, aiming to transform various industries and domains. But his latest venture might be his most daring and impactful one yet. Can they create a worthy ChatGPT rival? Elon Musk helped start OpenAI, so why not?
TruthGPT: Elon Musk wants a ChatGPT rival from X.AI
TruthGPT is an artificial intelligence system that Musk claims can generate truthful and accurate information on any topic without any human intervention or bias, and it will be the first task of X.AI. Musk saw TruthGPT as a way to change the direction of OpenAI, the AI software nonprofit he helped start and which now has a for-profit branch. Musk suggested that OpenAI’s desire to make money could affect the ethics of the AI models it makes, and he suggested “TruthGPT” as a more transparent alternative.
“I’m going to start something which I call TruthGPT or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe. And I think this might be the best path to safety in the sense that an AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to annihilate humans because we are an interesting part of the universe.”
-Elon Musk
So-called TruthGPT can be used for various purposes, such as education, research, journalism, entertainment, and social media. Musk claims that TruthGPT, aka Based AI, can answer any question or query truly, unlike ChatGPT.
It is not the first time that Elon Musk criticize OpenAI and called it Closed AI or Woke AI, which means an AI research organization that claims to be open but has been accused of being secretive and exclusive. Although he is one of the co-founders of OpenAI, he said, “Not what I intended at all” for its presence now.

If everything happens, as Elon says, TruthGPT can help combat the spread of misinformation and fake news on the internet by providing users with trustworthy and unbiased information. However, not everyone thinks like that.
Critics: TruthGPT or ElonGPT?
Not everyone is convinced by Musk’s vision and claims. Some critics have raised ethical and social concerns about the potential impact of TruthGPT on society and human communication. They argue that TruthGPT could pose a threat to human creativity and originality, as well as undermine the value and authority of human experts and professionals. They also warn that TruthGPT could be abused or manipulated by malicious actors or hackers, who could use it to generate false or harmful information for their own agendas, like how they do in ChatGPT.
Moreover, some skeptics have questioned the technical feasibility and validity of TruthGPT. They doubt that TruthGPT can actually generate truthful and accurate information on any topic, given the limitations and challenges of natural language processing and artificial intelligence. They also challenge the verifiability and transparency of TruthGPT’s mechanism and sources, asking how users can trust that TruthGPT is not biased or influenced by Musk’s own views or interests.
Musk says that he is confident that TruthGPT will be a game-changer for the internet and humanity. He hopes that TruthGPT will usher in a new era of enlightenment and discovery, where people can access reliable and relevant information on any topic they want without any barriers or biases.
Can TruthGPT make the internet a better place for everyone? We have to wait for to X.AI get an answer to it. The only question is, “Can Elon Musk handle the truth?”
What is X.AI?
X.AI is a new artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, Tesla, and SpaceX. The company aims to compete with OpenAI, another AI company that Musk co-founded and left in 2020.
X.AI plans to use Twitter data to build and train a large language model that can generate natural and engaging texts on various topics.
.AI was incorporated in Nevada in March 2023 and has attracted interest from some of Musk’s investors. The company is still in its early stages and has not revealed much about its products or goals. However, some sources suggest that X.AI might challenge ChatGPT, a popular chatbot developed by OpenAI that has been criticized by Musk for being too “woke.”
The danger of training AI to be woke – in other words, lie – is deadly

Let’s have a little conversation with ChatGPT about being “woke.”
Altman vs Musk
OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman made what seems to be a sarcastic comment in response to a Wall Street Journal report that said Musk started the new AI company X.AI in Nevada. Altman said “concerining” and then sent an emoji of a person rolling on the floor laughing. Elon Musk responded with a picture and a video. The video said, “May Altman Be With You.” On the video, words like “Why Am I here? You were chosen.” Also written on it was, “Altman is with you.”
Even though Altman and Musk have different ideas about how AI should be developed, it’s not impossible that they could still get along well and have a healthy relationship. Musk was part of a group of industry leaders, researchers, and experts who asked for a pause in the process of training powerful AI models in the last week of March 2023.
Elon Musk, OpenAI, and ChatGPT
The OpenAI consortium was founded in 2015 by Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and others. The platform’s stakeholders agreed to invest $1 billion in the project even though it was created as a non-profit organization. A decision was made to “freely collaborate” with other parties. The corporation even made the decision to keep the research and patents public.
Musk left OpenAI’s board of directors in 2018. As he develops artificial intelligence technology for Tesla, he fears there may be future conflicts of interest.
