Continuing our ambitious European journey to spread our Big Data knowledge, we stopped for the fifth time in Munich, where on the 7th of April we hosted another great event for our Bavarian community.

This time, the event took place at Wayra Deutschland, a startup accelerator owned by Telefonica, who invest in and accelerate early stage tech startups. A few notable startups in their portfolio include Foodora, Neokami and Parkpocket and they currently have an open call for tech startups that focus on Big Data, IoT and Mobile Networks, for more information click here.

The event kicked off with a great presentation delivered by Dr. Mihael Ankerst, Manager Customer Data Analytics at Allianz Deutschland. His presentation, entitled “The Need for Visualisation in the Big Data Era”, had the added tech delight of an open source demo, which intrigued the audience. The second speaker of the evening was Leo Quigley, the Project Manager at Kx, who gave an intro to Kx, with a focus on streaming analytics and in-memory computing. And lastly, the final speaker, Alexander Blattmann, the Principal Big Data & Analytics- Business Consulting at CSC, gave an innovative talk entitled “What does Helene Fischer have to do with Big Data?”.

After the presentations ended, our speakers were flooded with questions and conversations with captivated data enthusiasts. Not to mention, the evening was filled with knowledge sharing and networking amongst attendees.

We are very excited to continue growing our community in Munich and Europe, so keep an eye on our Meetup page and our Events Calendar to stay in the loop with all the updates about our upcoming event in Munich, taking place in September. For those interested in further reading, check out the presentation slides on our SlideShare page.
