On Thursday, December 10th, we hosted our second Big Data meetup in Budapest, Hungary. The event was held at the Colabs Startup Centre and ran from 7 to 10 pm, allowing for the audience to get some key networking time in after. We had a great lineup of speakers who captivated the crowd with insightful and innovative talks about Hadoop and applications of Big Data.

The Colabs Startup Centre has been pivotal in the Budapest startup scene, with a mission to “improve the Hungarian early-stage funding scene and create a more accessible and flexible capital environment in which the region’s best and brightest entrepreneurs can prosper”. Their co-founder, Zsolt Bako, proudly welcomed us at their headquarters on the Pest side, and gave us insight on how much support they are offering to the community.

The first speaker of the evening was Marcell Szabo, the Customer Operations Engineer at Cloudera, who described useful ways of simplifying Hadoop. His approach revolves around Record Service, a unified role-based policy enforcement for the Apache hadoop Ecosystem. Following, Nam Levente Vu, the Software Developer from SpyMoz, a promising startup, explained how market niche research can be done through Big Data analysis. And last, but not least, Akos Kapui, the Head of Apps Technology at Skyscanner, made some valuable points on how Big Data is revolutionising mobile products. After the presentations, we were happy to engage the participants with a networking session, accompanied, of course, by pizza and drinks.

We are very excited to continue growing our community in Budapest and Europe, so keep an eye on our Meetup Page, in order to be amongst the first to find out about our next event in Budapest. For those interested, you can find the presentation slides on Dataconomy’s Slideshare Page.
