The American IT products manufacturer for the enterprise, Compuware’s latest offering, dubbed Topaz was released earlier this week to help IT engineers at large businesses handle transactional data within mainframes.

“Having a new-age workforce being confident in these applications and actually modifying them to better meet their requirements in analytics or mobile is becoming very, very critical,” Compuware’s recently appointed CEO, Chris O’Malley, told VentureBeat in an interview. “So the new Topaz tool provides a visual representation of mainframe applications. It shows how data corresponds to applications in interrelationship with the data,” O’Malley added.

Having gone private in September last year, with private equity firm Thoma Bravo through a $2.5 billion deal, Compuware has been focusing its resources ‘entirely on mainframes,’ reports VentureBeat.

Although there is a general trend in data migration towards cloud and standard servers in data centers, many enterprises still maintain reliable mainframes, but the people who know these systems and their applications best are getting older, points out VB. Compuware’s tool will assist in easy managing of such mainframes. “Companies can get on with analyzing that data in addition to all other data on hand and weaving the data into mobile apps, so they can more effectively compete.”
