On Monday, it was announced that Oracle will introduce two new data centers in Germany with colocation partners Interxion and Equinix.
In the wake of recent Snowden disclosures of surveillance carried out by the US National Security Agency (NSA) and the UK’s GCHQ, Oracle’s data centers come as a solution to the rising demand of cloud users in Germany choosing to keep their data within the country.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, September 28 at Oracle OpenWorld, Loic Le Guisquet, Oracle executive vice president for the EMEA region, explained that several factors play a role in data security and privacy, including who has access to the data and operational processes, reports Forbes.
“The location of the data is only one factor in that whole conversation,” he added. “It’s an important one—one that people focus on, and one that is relevant. We’re opening data centers in Germany because we feel that’s going to help respond to customers in Germany.”
The data centers will be located in Frankfurt and Munich, and are set to be operational by the end of this year. Le Guisquet noted that the facilities will cover “a very wide range of our cloud solutions,” which includes Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning Cloud, Oracle Human Capital Management Cloud, and Oracle Customer Experience Cloud capabilities.
It is believed that Microsoft also similar intentions to offer a German-only cloud.
