After an eventful week for IBM, with the announcement of its historic partnership with Apple, the company yesterday announced its quarterly earnings, reporting higher than expected quarterly revenue. IBM reported second quarter revenue of $24.4 billion, a decline in revenue by 2 percent overall, but also beating consensus expectations of $24.13 billion.

Interestingly, the company also announced that big data, cloud, and mobile were three areas the company performed particularly well in. Although specific numbers were not mentioned, mobile revenue is up by 100 percent; cloud revenue is up by 50 percent for the year, with hosted services on track to be a $2.8 billion business this year; big data grew by 7 percent and security revenue up by more than 20 percent, all year to date.

“In the second quarter, we made further progress on our transformation. We performed well in our strategic imperatives around cloud, big data and analytics, security and mobile,” said Ginni Rometty, IBM chairman and CEO, in a statement.

“We will continue to extend and leverage our unique strengths to address the emerging trends in enterprise IT and transform our business, positioning ourselves for growth over the long term,” Rometty said.

As BusinessInsider highlight, IBM have made significant moves in recent months. Not only was the announcement with Apple significant, the tech giant also announced an initiative to solve China’s pollution issue, its $3 billion investment to develop next generation microchips, and its agreement with Whirpool to implement a cloud platform for Whirlpool’s apps.
