Hortonworks and Accenture Join Forces to Improve Accessibility of Structured and Unstructured Datasets

Global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company Accenture has added a new collaboration to its list of recent partnerships. After teaming up with Cloudera and Datastax in the past, the company is now in collaboration with Hadoop contributor and provider Hortonworlds to combine old and new approaches on data management. Their plan is to make structured and unstructured datasets, such as operational, sensor and video data more accessible for clients.

“The partnership is aligned with Accenture’s overall big data strategy, which is aimed at helping our clients leverage existing technology while staying up to date with technology that is emerging,” Accenture Analytic’s Managing Director of Alliance Management Jason McIntyre explains.

Organizations are facing difficulties to keep data accessible, as data technologies are constantly expanding and improving, especially when it comes to the integration of unstructured data into conventional data silos. By combining the open-source certified Apache Hadoop Hortenworks Data Platform with its own technical infrastructure, Accenture can provide their clients with the necessary hybrid solutions. In this way users will also be able to manage and analyze data at scale more efficiently.

“This isn’t about leaving old technology behind,” McIntyre adds. “A lot of our clients are interested in continuing to extract return from their existing architecture, but inject new technology and leverage the combination to maximize return.”Because of the important role that Hadoop plays in the storage and processing of unstructured data, Hortonworks was a natural choice, according to McIntyre. “Hadoop will be a transformational technology in the big data space, and Hortonworks is a leader in that market”. Hortonworks and Accenture have already joined forces in 2012, making Accenture’s consulting and delivery services available on the Hortonworks Data Platform, but are now looking to take their partnership to the next level.

Herb Cunitz, president of Hortonworks, explains the collaboration as such: “Through this new alliance, Hortonworks is able to bring Enterprise Hadoop to Accenture’s highly respected client base via new big data offerings,” and adds that “Accenture’s deep industry knowledge, analytics expertise and global delivery capability combined with Hortonworks’ Hadoop leadership, offers a compelling value proposition for companies seeking to capitalize on the real benefits of a data-driven approach to business.”
