Website optimization is big business. Advertisers, website proprietors and media organisations alike are acutely aware of the factors that drive traffic. The emphasis, however, is not simply on bringing people to the website. Rather, it is crucial for these websites to make their pages as engaging as possible – that is, ensuring that people stay on the website for as long as possible, click the most, and keep the bounce rate (how quickly a person leaves) to a minimum. While traffic may be crucial, valuable and engaged traffic is critical.
A study published by Shareaholic, a social sharing and analytics company, presented the most engaging websites on the internet. The study analysed over 200,000 sites, reaching more than 250 unique monthly visitors to understand which social network drives the most engaged readers. Below is a graph of their findings.
