Pivotal, the joint venture of EMC and VMware, is announcing a new license model for its customers. Pivotal Big Data Suite, a software based on annual subscription, will bundle Pivotal Greenplum Database, Pivotal GemFire, Pivotal SQLFire, Pivotal GemFire XD, Pivotal HAWQ, and Pivotal HD into products for their customers. The move by is designed to make their pricing more competitive.
The senior director of product marketing at Pivitol said, “We’re telling customers they have to capture [all their data] to be competitive…yet they’re being charged, or taxed, for every terabyte they put into their data lake.” [Now, we’re] basically dumping the idea that you should be taxed on how much you store. … [Users can] subscribe to this and store absolutely everything.”
